In 1990, my father ran for the State Senate. He lost in the primary, but his lifelong commitment to serving his community always inspired me. Dad died in 2015, and I wanted to honor his legacy by running for public office myself. As an IT professional, I've chosen to run this year because of the unique challenges city governments face as they are forced to grapple with rapid expansion of Flock surveillance cameras, data centers, and general data privacy concerns.
Independence has a lot of land, which makes us a prime target. Smooth-talking salespeople can easily come in and try to sell a less tech-savvy council on a bad deal, promising big advantages that just aren't right for us. The reality is simple: no one wants to live next to a data center. That is why I am taking a clear, firm stand on this issue. As your councilmember, I will always vote NO on data centers in our city. I will protect our community from these bad deals and make sure our local government always puts the peace of mind of our residents first.
Our community values its privacy, but right now, that privacy is being invaded by cameras that have been put up all across our state. When we walk down our streets or drive through our neighborhoods, we shouldn't feel like we are constantly being watched. That is why I am taking a firm stand on this issue. If elected, I will vote NO to putting up any new cameras in our city. Furthermore, I will fight to take down any Flock cameras that already exist within our city limits. We deserve a community where we can live our lives freely without constant surveillance. I am committed to protecting our personal privacy and making sure our city remains a place where we feel secure, respected, and truly at home.
Every day, I see how the rising cost of living is impacting families at all income levels right here in our community. It is a real challenge, and we need a city council that actually acknowledges this reality and works to ease the burden on our households. That is why I have made a firm pledge of no new taxes for the next four years. If you elect me, I will vote no to all tax increases during the entire duration of my four-year term. You deserve leadership that listens to your concerns and is committed to keeping life affordable, and I am ready to bring that focus and dedication to city hall.
